The editor behind it all—
Maria VerMulm

Maria grew up in the Caribbean and experienced a wealth of culture as well as hardship at a young age. Upon returning to the U.S., she moved ten more times before settling down in New Jersey with her parents. She moved to Tennessee shortly after for school, then to Louisiana. She now lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and two cats.

During those years of nonstop change, words were her only constant. She learned to read CAP and BAT at three, and was devouring chapter books at five. She discovered writing at fourteen and has been addicted to watching ink fill a page ever since.

She trained as an editorial intern, editing environmental articles and went on to became an assistant to an academic editor to further her editing education and experience, and eventually founded The Editor’s Margin in 2025.
