Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in a free consultation?

A free consultation is a phone or video call (or email exchange if preferred), where you ask questions about my editing process and I ask questions about your project. This helps both of us see if we are a good fit for each other before committing to working together.

What is your editing style?

I take a collaborative approach. I aim to preserve the author’s voice while tightening prose, clarifying structure, removing wordiness, and ensuring clear readability. My edits are practical (clear notes, tracked changes) and thoughtful (focused on readability and resonance). My process is laid out in my contract.

What’s your background/experience?

I have professional editing experience across academic and creative contexts. I’ve worked with researchers, entrepreneurs, first-time authors, ESL clients, and experienced writers preparing manuscripts. I draw on a background that values both precision and storytelling.

Do you specialize in certain subject areas?

Yes. I often work on projects in Christian literature, memoir, business/professional development, grants, devotionals, and creative nonfiction. And I enjoy editing fiction, especially when it is allegorically or thematically resonant.

Do you do free sample edits?

Yes, I usually provide a free sample edit (2–5 pages) so an author can observe concrete examples of my approach and how my editing process would apply to their specific project.

What’s your availability?

I schedule in advance, and I’m always excited to take on a new project. Timelines depend on word count and scope, but I work with authors to meet their deadlines whenever possible.
